1. What is Autodesk Inventor LT?
   Autodesk® Inventor LT™ software is a new member of the Autodesk® Inventor™ family of software products. It helps manufacturers create, share, and edit 3D part designs and DWG™ drawings to satisfy customer and supplier requirements in today’s complex global supply chain.
    
   Inventor LT helps reduce the headaches of working in an environment with many disparate computer-aided design (CAD) systems by enabling you to import, export, create, and modify 3D part models in leading native and neutral file formats to meet the increasing need for communicating in 3D.
    
   Inventor LT is being introduced as a Technology Preview release and is available for a limited time as a free download from Autodesk Labs. More information is available at http://labs.autodesk.com/technologies/inventor_lt/
    
2. Who would use Inventor LT?
   Professionals in virtually any manufacturing-related industry will find that Inventor LT is ideal for many of their design software needs:
    
   • Manufacturing professionals who need to create, share, and edit 2D and 3D part design data in a variety of formats to satisfy customer and supply chain requirements
   • Manufacturing professionals who want to improve their time-to-market and product quality by completing new part designs in 3D, and then documenting those designs as DWG drawings that are interoperable with their AutoCAD® DWG drawings
   • Manufacturing professionals who face new part design challenges that require 3D visualization, analysis capabilities, complex shapes and surfaces, entire families of parts from one basic design, and more
   • Manufacturing professionals who need to create stunning, winning client presentations and marketing collateral directly from digital design data and before even the first physical prototype is built
      
3. What are the key similarities and differences between Inventor LT and Inventor?
   Inventor LT provides the same 3D part modeling, import/export, documentation, and rendering capabilities available in the Autodesk® Inventor™ 2008 product line. Since Inventor LT utilizes similar technology and user interface as Inventor 2008, all the files created and 3D design skills learned in Inventor LT are fully transferable to Inventor.
    
   Key capabilities available in other products in the Inventor product family that are not available in Inventor LT include, but are not limited, to the following:
    
   • 3D assembly modeling
   • Specialty design and simulation tools such as sheet metal and dynamic simulation
   • Inclusion of AutoCAD® Mechanical
   • Inclusion of Autodesk® Vault for data management
   • Customization via application programming interface (API) access or third-party add-in applications
      
4. How can I get Inventor LT?
   Download it today from Autodesk Labs at http://labs.autodesk.com/technologies/inventor_lt/downloadform/
    
   Before downloading Inventor LT, you will be asked to provide a valid email address, which Autodesk will use to send you a serial number. You will need this serial number to activate your copy of Inventor LT when you first run the software. Your use of Inventor LT is subject to the terms and conditions of Autodesk Labs and the Inventor LT End User License Agreement.
    
5. In what languages and countries is Inventor LT available?
   Inventor LT Technology Preview is available only as English language software and is available for download only in the United States and Canada.
    
6. Is Inventor LT interoperable with other Autodesk products?
   Yes. Sharing files with the Autodesk Inventor 2008 family of products is seamless. And with innovative DWG TrueConnect technology, Inventor LT delivers industry-leading DWG interoperability with AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT® software.
    
   Inventor LT also includes Autodesk® Design Review and can publish 2D and 3D DWF™ files. Markups made to 2D DWF files can easily be “round-tripped” back to the original Inventor drawing, thus streamlining the design review process with extended design teams.
    
7. What file formats does Inventor LT support?
   Inventor LT supports a wide variety of common 3D and 2D part-level file formats:

   Inventor LT does not support Inventor assembly models (IAM), Inventor assembly drawings (IDW or DWG), Inventor sheet metal parts (IPT), Inventor presentation files (IPN), or assemblies of native and neutral 3D formats.
    
8. Are the native multi-CAD translator add-ins that are available for Inventor 2008 also available for Inventor LT?
   Yes. The same translator add-ins for Inventor 2008 that translates UG-NX, Pro/ENGINEER, Parasolid, and GRANITE formats can also be used for Inventor LT Technology Preview. The translator add-ins are available as a separate free download from Autodesk Labs at http://labs.autodesk.com
    
9. What happens when I try to open an Inventor assembly file with Inventor LT?
   If you attempt to open an Inventor model or assembly drawing, Inventor LT prompts you to open the assembly in Inventor View—a free viewer installed with Inventor LT that provides view, measure, and plot capabilities.
    
10. What computer system requirements do I need for Inventor LT?

11. Can I run Inventor LT Technology Preview and Inventor on the same computer?
    Inventor LT Technology Preview and Inventor 2008 cannot be installed on the same computer. Inventor LT can be installed on the same computer as Autodesk Inventor 11 or earlier.
     
12. How do I obtain technical support for Inventor LT?
    Inventor LT is a Technology Preview and therefore is not supported like the for-purchase products in the Inventor product line. However, Autodesk wants to hear about any problems that you may have with the product. Your reporting helps us make better products for you. Please report technical problems to labs.inventorlt@autodesk.com.
     
13. Where do I find learning and training resources for Inventor LT?
    In many cases, training resources and information designed for Inventor will also be helpful in learning how to use Inventor LT. Visit our CAD training area for information on Inventor courses and workshops.
     
14. How long will my Inventor LT Technology Preview license work?
    Once activated, Inventor LT Technology Preview will run until May 1, 2008.
     
15. Can I buy Inventor LT?
    Inventor LT is not currently available for purchase. Should Inventor LT become available for purchase, Autodesk anticipates that the suggested retail price for a new license of Inventor LT will be approximately US$999, and customers who participate in the Technology Preview will receive special purchase incentives.
