AutoCAD Mechanical 2006
What's New

Want to get unparalleled productivity out of your 2D mechanical design process? Then take a look at AutoCAD Mechanical 2006. This software packs powerful tools, such as a content library, that accelerate mechanical design projects by automating common tasks. And because it's based on the AutoCAD platform, it produces native DWG files so your teams can easily share design data with other AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor software users. But it goes above and beyond the capabilities of AutoCAD, offering significant productivity increases for 2D mechanical design. And that's what matters-this is a purpose-built tool that helps your teams save countless hours of design and rework.

So, what's new with AutoCAD Mechanical 2006?

Associative 2D Hide

AutoCAD Mechanical 2006 drastically reduces the time required to create and edit hidden lines in drawings. Now a single browser entry in the mechanical structure makes it easy to manage hidden lines, options, and order for parts and entire assemblies. This new visual workflow alleviates the headache of managing individual hidden lines: now it's quick, easy, and intuitive.

Autodesk Inventor Associativity for Assemblies

In the past you have been able to easily detail and document native 3D Autodesk Inventor parts. Now with AutoCAD Mechanical 2006 you can use the same process to document and detail assemblies. Just open an Autodesk Inventor file (IPT or IAM) in AutoCAD Mechanical and a link is automatically created. Now any changes made to the linked 3D Autodesk Inventor models are immediately reflected in the 2D AutoCAD Mechanical drawing, saving hours of work in redocumenting changes to a design. The link also provides access to important design metadata, such as the bill of materials (BOM) or drawing title, for easy updating.

New Drafting Tools

Increase drafting productivity and improve standards compliance with AutoCAD Mechanical 2006. A new set of dimensions further extends support for international standards within AutoCAD Mechanical, with additions of arc length, jogged radii, flip arrow, and many more. The drafting environment also benefits from updated standards, such as DIN section lines, JIS feature control frames, and much more. Last, in addition to the standard command line interface, AutoCAD Mechanical now offers a headsup design mode that enables you to enter commands directly in model space.

2D Mechanical Structure Sample Migration Tool

Don't waste time re-creating existing data. Reuse that data instead by migrating it to 2D mechanical structure. AutoCAD Mechanical 2006 includes a sample migration tool that can be customized to convert blocks to mechanical structure. Written in Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), this new tool provides you with the base coding and can be easily customized to meet the needs of your company.

Autodesk Vault

Integrated with AutoCAD Mechanical 2006, Autodesk Vault makes data management more efficient by organizing your design data and protecting it from inadvertent changes. This easy-to-use data management tool makes workin- progress data more accessible and reusable, while avoiding the versioning problems inherent in sharing files among workgroups. Most important, Autodesk Vault is tightly integrated with your Autodesk design applications, making data management much easier.
