Overview Information
After a full year in limited release, ADTlink for RAM Structural System and RAM CADstudio has been refined and
is ready for prime time!
ADTlink provides a seamless link between the industry leading modeling, analysis and design system, the RAM
Structural System and RAM CADstudio by RAM
International, and Architectural Desktop, AutoDesk’s world leading
CAD platform for architects and structural engineering firms.
ADTlink runs inside of Architectural Desktop 3.3, (2004 and 2005) and allows the user to select a RAM Structural
System or RAM CADstudio model for import. Steel and concrete members are brought in as 3D structural entities from the
model and translated into ADT. The utility is flexible and allows the user to define custom steel and concrete slabs
and footings as styles in Architectural Desktop. Uses in Architectural Desktop can range from checking interference
conditions to renderings in a presentation.

ADTlink virtually eliminates the error prone process of manually coordinating the structural model with the
rest of the disciplines by automating the process of importing a RAM Structural System or RAM CADstudio model into ADT
as native members. This eliminates the many hours spent going through the error prone process of recreating the structural
model manually in ADT.

As both an Authorized AutoDesk VAR and a RAM International Strategic Development Partner, Advanced Micro Systems has
been able to provide a level of integration between the two software platforms that is not available from any other
source. ADTlink is ideal for structural engineers who use ADT as part of their project work flow or to coordinate
projects with other engineering disciplines and architects by providing the following benefits:
- RAM Structural System beams, columns and braces translated to native ADT Structural Members
- RAM CADstudio beams, columns and braces translated to native ADT Structural Members for Architectural Desktop 2004/2005
- RAM Structural System concrete walls translated to native ADT Walls
- RAM Structural System concrete footings translated to native ADT Slabs
- The ability to control the offset distance of beams to beams and beams to columns
- User display option for camber and stud information for all structural members inside ADT
- Written in ObjectARX to dramatically increase speed and performance
- Hover Tool tip display information on all entities
- Ability to use Actual RAM Structural System model to check interference conditions
- Support of Mat Footing
- Object updates (when import structure command key-in) with cloud option
- Beam Studs and Camber information are added to beams as property set definitions (can use this info for tags)
- Full support of UK (metric) models
- Support of extend/shorten of wall start/end points on import
- Selection of multiple template drawings for style import
- User option of automatic model offset

User Feedback
Here is what some of our early adopters had to say about ADTlink for RAM Structural System and RAM CADstudio!
| “In the past, we used to create a 3D structural model in RAM for the purpose of design
and analysis. In parallel, another team would re-create the same 3D model in ADT (or another modeling product)
for the purpose of documentation (construction documents), coordination with other disciplines, and visualization/simulation
needs. Being an A/E firm, this internal re-work has been very time consuming and prone to errors which in turn
led to decrease in profitability.” |
“With ADTlink we are now able to save many hours of re-work, and at the same time
ensure that the resulting 3D model is perfectly aligned with our analytical data.” |
“The flexibility of importing structural geometry to various floor levels, separate
files, and specified layers lends itself to our workflow needs in ADT, and again, saves significant amount
of time trying to ensure our files are compliant to either our own CAD standards, or our customers’.” |
“Unlike several other products that we have tested, ADTlink is able to generate a
NATIVE ADT model, with ADT structural components that maintain integrity and keep file sizes very manageable.
With ADTlink, ADT 3D structural models are indistinguishable from models created directly in ADT. Other
products were not able to achieve this level of sophistication and transparency.” |
“For the first time, our A/E office is able to achieve a level of interdisciplinary
coordination that is reliable, consistent, and has proven to significantly cut down errors and omissions
in our construction documents.”
